Data on State funding
In 2019, Benefacts began to collect current expenditure data from the annual reports, websites and press releases of State bodies. Where no funding data was published Benefacts requested and received this directly from the Departments or agencies concerned.
The data provided by State bodies was matched to the data on nonprofits already in Benefacts database, to create a publicly-accessible, searchable Directory of State funders.
This was augmented in 2020 with a free online directory of nonprofits funded using net proceeds of the National Lottery.
The State bodies whose data for 2019 and 2020 was harvested were:
- Arts Council
- Department of Rural & Community Development*
- Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration & Youth*
- Department of Health
- Department of Housing, Local Government & Heritage
- Department of Justice
- Department of Employment and Social Protection*
- Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media
- Heritage Council
- Health Service Executive
- Sport Ireland
- Tusla
